The story behind Dora's Collection

Behind Dora's Collection is Dora – a woman who carries with her the traditions of South Sudan and a craft that has been with her since childhood. Dora was born and raised in Juba, South Sudan, where crochet is a craft that has been passed down through generations of women. She learned to crochet from her mother at the age of twelve, and what
started as a tradition at home grew into a lifelong passion.

Roots and inspiration

Dora's mother
was a respected woman in the local community, known for her dedication and creative talents. She crocheted not only for her family but also for neighbours and friends, and her work became a source of joy and inspiration for the people around her. For Dora,
the craft became more than a skill – it became a way of expressing care, creativity and community.

Where it all began

When Dora moved to Norway, she found new inspiration in everyday life. She began making small items for her daughter – first beanies, summer hats, ponchos and blankets. Over time her interest grew, and the craft found a new place in her life. What was once a tradition back home in South Sudan was given new life in Norway.

Norwegian tradition meets African roots

Today Dora combines her experience of two cultures in every single piece she makes. She works without set patterns, letting colours, materials and the moment shape the look. Every bag, basket and interior piece is handmade with time, care and love for the craft. No two pieces are exactly alike – and that is precisely what makes each one unique.

Quality and craftsmanship

For Dora, craftsmanship is about more than function. It is about creating products that bring warmth, personality and history into the home. Products that can be used every day, yet carry something lasting – a story of tradition, culture and the people behind them. Dora's Collection is a tribute to genuine craftsmanship, timeless design and the beauty of things made by hand.
